King Charles and Queen Camilla are undertaking a four-day state visit to the United States, aiming to strengthen the 'special relationship' between the two nations. Buckingham Palace confirmed the visit would proceed despite a shooting incident at the White House correspondents’ dinner.
First Day Highlights
The royal couple's schedule includes an initial greeting by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House, followed by a private tea and a garden party with guests representing US-UK connections.
Washington D.C. Activities
Further activities in Washington D.C. will feature a state arrival ceremony with military honours, a bilateral meeting between King Charles and President Trump in the Oval Office, an address to both houses of Congress, and a state dinner.
New York Visit
The visit will then move to New York, where the King and Queen will visit the 9/11 memorial, meet first responders, and Queen Camilla will present a specially made 'Roo' toy to the New York Public Library to complete its Winnie-the-Pooh collection.
Virginia and Bermuda
Concluding their US tour, Charles and Camilla will travel to Virginia to attend a community party marking the 250th anniversary of American independence and engage with indigenous communities to discuss climate change projects, before the King continues to Bermuda.
