Keisha Buchanan: From Sugababes to Masked Singer Champion

Keisha Buchanan, best known as a founding member of the Sugababes, has been crowned the winner of The Masked Singer 2026. Performing as Moth, she triumphed over competitors Conkers and Toastie with a rendition of Rihanna's 'Only Girl (In the World)'. Runners-up were revealed as This Morning presenter Ben Shephard and former EastEnders star Mica Paris.

Speaking after her win, Buchanan said: 'I have been a fan of the show for many years. I absolutely loved it. I really started to embrace Moth! I haven’t done many things by myself, so this was so necessary to bring me out of my shell.' She added that Maya Jama had guessed her identity early on, and she enjoyed seeing others' reactions.

Buchanan rose to fame with the Sugababes, formed in 1998 alongside Siobhan Donaghy and Mutya Buena. The group underwent several lineup changes after Donaghy left in 2001, citing bullying by Buchanan – allegations she has denied. Buena departed in 2005 due to postnatal depression. Buchanan herself was replaced in 2009, later saying she was 'replaced while still being in the band' and that it affected her 'emotionally, mentally, financially'.

The original trio reunited in 2011 and officially reclaimed the Sugababes name in 2022. In 2024, Buchanan revealed she had survived a serious car accident after blacking out at the wheel. She posted a photo of the scene, writing: 'Thank you Jesus for my life. Thankful for another year… will speak more on the cause behind the black out another time.'

Buchanan has also spoken about the group's gruelling schedule in the 1990s, saying they had 'four days off a year' and sometimes only 'two and a half hours sleep'. She noted that the reunited Sugababes now have more control over their work, saying: 'We are given offers, and we can say yes or no… it's easier for us to create an atmosphere where we have a little bit more control.'
