Iran embassy mocks Trump with AI dumpster video after midterm losses
Iran embassy mocks Trump with AI dumpster video

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India has shared an AI-generated video on X showing US President Donald Trump being carried out of the White House and thrown into a dumpster, following heavy Republican losses in the US midterm elections.

In the artificial footage, Trump appears unconscious as four men in suits carry him away from the White House before dumping him into a large rubbish container marked "Hazardous waste". The clip quickly went viral, attracting more than five million views and 111,000 likes.

Social Media Reaction

One person commented: "Iranians are having a field day!" Another joked: "First successful regime change operation by Iran."

The clip appears to turn Trump's own use of AI videos against him. Trump previously shared an artificially generated video in which late-night television host Stephen Colbert was thrown into a dumpster before later being shown dancing.

Midterm Election Context

The latest mockery comes after Trump's Republican Party suffered major losses in this week's midterm elections. Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and Senate, giving the party control of Congress for the remainder of Trump's presidency.

Voters flipped a string of Republican strongholds, with Democrats making gains in states including Texas, Ohio, Georgia and Iowa.

The result means Democrats will be in a much stronger position to frustrate Trump's political agenda when the new Congress takes control in January.

Political Implications

They will be able to block some of his choices for courts and his Cabinet, as well as launch investigations and potentially pursue impeachment proceedings against White House officials.

However, Trump will retain considerable power to stand in the way of legislation passed by Congress. The president can veto bills and joint resolutions sent to him, including spending legislation and war powers resolutions.

Trump has already suggested he plans to make extensive use of that power, describing himself as "Mr Veto". Congress can override a presidential veto, but doing so requires the support of two-thirds of both the House and Senate. Democrats do not have enough seats to achieve that alone and would therefore need Republican support.

Anti-Trump Displays in Iran

The online mockery comes as anti-Trump displays have also continued in Iran. People took to the streets of Tehran on Wednesday to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, with demonstrators carrying anti-Trump placards.

Some signs portrayed the US president as a pig, while others carried the threatening message: "We will kill Trump." Billboards have also appeared showing Trump behind bars.
