Gabby Allen on Celebrity SAS Win: 'I Was Numb' After Gruelling Show

Gabby Allen's 'Numb' Reaction to Celebrity SAS Victory Revealed

Former Love Islander Gabby Allen has shared her surprising emotional state following her triumphant win on Channel 4's gruelling reality competition Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. The 34-year-old fitness professional, who rose to fame on the 2017 series of Love Island, described feeling completely numb when informed of her victory alongside fellow winners Dani Dyer and Emily Seebohm.

From Love Island to SAS Selection

Gabby Allen is perhaps best known for her appearance on Love Island nearly a decade ago, but her participation in Celebrity SAS has demonstrated her capabilities extend far beyond reality television. The professional fitness trainer explained that the show provided her with a crucial opportunity to showcase her physical and mental strength in a completely different context.

"I knew that it was going to strip me back to nothing," Allen revealed. "It was the opportunity for people to see me in a different way from Love Island." She emphasized that as a fitness professional, being able to demonstrate her abilities in such an extreme environment was particularly meaningful to her career and personal identity.

The Gruelling Challenges of Celebrity SAS

The condensed, high-intensity version of Special Air Service selection pushed Allen and her fellow celebrities to their absolute limits over eight brutal days. Recruits faced a series of extreme challenges designed to test both physical endurance and mental fortitude.

  • Ice-cold water being tipped over participants
  • Mountain climbs while carrying heavy ammunition
  • Intense interrogation sessions with directing staff
  • Eight hours of noise torture requiring stress positions

Allen described one particularly difficult moment during the noise torture challenge: "Your toes had to be facing the ceiling, your hands had to be slapped by your sides. There were moments where I'd think 'I'm just going to rest a minute here', and they'd slap your foot back or poke you with something."

The Shocking Aftermath of Victory

When Allen learned she had passed the rigorous selection course alongside Dyer and Seebohm - marking the first all-female winning lineup in the show's history - her reaction was far from celebratory. "When they told me I'd passed, I was numb," she confessed. "We all just stood there not moving. I was like: 'I don't know what I'm celebrating here'."

The fitness trainer explained that the immediate aftermath of the experience left her in a state of shock and exhaustion. "I think I was just in shock of what we'd just been through. I was in awe... but also just horrified," she said. "It was only after I got back and slept that I was obviously buzzing. But at that moment in time, there was not one ounce of energy left in me."

Personal Breakthroughs and Physical Triumphs

Despite her small stature at just 5'2", Allen proved herself equal to the physical demands of the course. She recalled a particularly proud moment during a mountain climbing challenge: "I'll never forget this one day where we were literally free-climbing up a mountain, carrying this ammo, and I got to the top of it and I was like 'I can't believe we've just done that'."

The Postman's Walk challenge presented unexpected difficulties for Allen, who discovered new fears under extreme conditions. "I hadn't been afraid of heights. I wouldn't have said it was my biggest fear," she explained. "But the anticipation as you're going up to the top of a mountain and you're faced with a crater that's 100m wide... There were moments where fear got the better of me."

The Psychological Impact of the Mirror Room

One of the most intense aspects of the Celebrity SAS experience was the Mirror Room interrogation, where recruits were stripped of their public personas and forced to confront personal traumas and insecurities. Allen described this psychological challenge as both troubling and ultimately liberating.

"It was very apparent to me when I got in there that I wanted to prove myself," she said. "But I also wanted the DS to understand why I was behaving in certain ways. It was my moment to explain why I am the way I am. And it was quite liberating, in a way."

Allen emphasized the immersive nature of the Celebrity SAS experience, noting that unlike other reality shows like Love Island, there were no breaks or downtime. "It's very real," she stated. "You're there to be in that moment." This authenticity extended to being stripped of personal comforts, including her favourite skincare products that she normally relies on in her daily life.

The former Love Islander concluded that despite the extreme challenges, she would willingly undergo the experience again. "I'd do it again," she declared without hesitation, reflecting on the transformative nature of the gruelling selection course that pushed her beyond what she previously believed were her limits.
