Actor and comedian Eugene Mirman has been hospitalised with serious injuries after a car crash in New Hampshire on Tuesday. The 51-year-old, best known for voicing Gene Belcher in Bob's Burgers, was driving a 2026 Lucid Gravity when it struck a toll plaza in Bedford and caught fire.
New Hampshire State Police said emergency calls reported the vehicle was on fire and someone appeared trapped inside. A veteran state trooper assigned to Governor Kelly Ayotte's security detail arrived at the scene and, with help from Ayotte and two others, pulled Mirman from the burning vehicle through a window.
Mirman was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. His agent, Jay Glassner, confirmed the accident in a statement to The New York Times, saying Mirman wanted to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him. 'He is grateful to be on the mend,' Glassner said, requesting privacy for Mirman and his family.
Colonel Mark B Hall of New Hampshire State Police described the rescue as 'heroic', noting that the responders put themselves in danger to help someone in need. He confirmed that Ayotte was not in danger and had retrieved a fire extinguisher. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
Mirman, born in Moscow and raised in Massachusetts, has voiced Gene Belcher on Bob's Burgers since 2011, appearing in over 300 episodes and the film adaptation. He also starred in HBO's Flight of the Conchords and has appeared in Archer, Broad City, and The Simpsons crossover episode.
