Airstrike Kills Palestinian Woman and Girl in Southern Gaza

A Palestinian woman and a young girl were killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza on Monday, according to hospital authorities. The strike hit a tent sheltering a displaced family in the Muwasi area, west of Khan Younis, the Kuwait field hospital reported. Another girl was wounded in the attack.

The Israeli military said it had struck a militant but provided no further details. The fatalities are the latest in a series of incidents since a ceasefire deal in October aimed at ending over two years of war between Israel and Hamas. While major fighting has subsided, the truce remains fragile, with near-daily Israeli fire reported.

Since the ceasefire, Israeli forces have conducted repeated airstrikes and frequently fired on Palestinians near military-held zones, killing over 880 people, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The ministry, part of the Hamas-led government, is considered reliable by UN agencies and independent experts, though it does not distinguish between civilian and militant deaths.

Militants have carried out shooting attacks on Israeli troops, and Israel says its strikes are in response to truce violations or threats. Four Israeli soldiers have been killed since the ceasefire took effect.
