Hegseth Admits US Can't Block All Iranian Strikes Despite Air Dominance
Hegseth: US Can't Stop All Iran Attacks Despite Air Superiority

US Defense Secretary Acknowledges Limits in Iranian Conflict

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on Wednesday that while the United States is rapidly achieving air superiority over Iran, it cannot intercept every air attack launched by the Islamic Republic. His remarks came during a press briefing at the Pentagon, following recent joint US-Israeli strikes that have escalated hostilities across the region.

Air Defense Capabilities and Inherent Risks

Hegseth emphasized that the US has deployed extensive resources to bolster air defense systems, aiming to safeguard American forces and allied nations in the Middle East. "We spared no expense or capability in enhancing our defenses," he declared. However, he candidly admitted, "This does not mean we can stop everything." The defense strategy prioritizes maximum force protection before offensive operations, yet some drone or missile strikes may still penetrate defenses.

Casualties and Ongoing Threats

The reality of continued risks was underscored by recent tragedies. Six US soldiers were killed in a drone strike on an operations center in Kuwait, highlighting vulnerabilities even in non-combat zones. General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned that service members "remain in harm's way" with high risks persisting. President Donald Trump and defense leaders have cautioned that additional American casualties are expected as the conflict could extend for months.

Extended Conflict Timeline and Strategic Posture

Hegseth suggested the war might last longer than previously estimated, potentially up to eight weeks, though he refrained from setting a precise duration. "You can say four weeks, but it could be six, it could be eight, it could be three," he noted, emphasizing US control over the conflict's pace. He assured that the US possesses sufficient munitions and equipment to prevail in a war of attrition, with more forces, including jet fighters and bombers, continuously arriving in the region.

Regional Escalation and Iranian Threats

Tehran has vowed to devastate Middle Eastern military and economic infrastructure, signaling no imminent end to hostilities. President Trump acknowledged the campaign might span four to five weeks but expressed readiness to prolong efforts if necessary. The situation remains fluid, with the US committed to maintaining pressure until objectives are met.
