Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has issued an update to fans after being rushed to hospital following a fall at home. The 64-year-old fell backwards and hit her head on a glass dressing table, prompting a trip to A&E for a brain scan.
In an Instagram post, Ballas said: 'Just on my way to the physio now to see John after this neck, head thing that happened. The spine, the back, the lower back, the knee, the ankle, everything hurts.' She added that she was grateful for the nurses, doctors and friends who helped her.
The Wirral-born star later revealed that her osteopath, John Harris, had been 'very helpful' and said she was 'very lucky the way I hit [my head]'. She has been 'realigned and readjusted' but needs to rest for 72 hours, after which she should 'feel like a new woman'.
Ballas thanked fans for their messages of support, writing: 'Scary fall backwards hitting my head on the glass dressing table. Trip to hospital to get a brain scan. Fortunately for me no cracked skull.' She also expressed gratitude to fellow professional dancer Barbara McColl for arranging an emergency appointment and to her ex-husband Sammy Stopford for accompanying her to hospital.
Despite the incident, Ballas is expected to take part in the Strictly Come Dancing live tour, which begins next week with 30 shows scheduled until February 15. She joined the show in 2017 as head judge.
