Michael Clarke Shares Skin Cancer Surgery Update, Urges Checks

Former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke has undergone another skin cancer removal, sharing a confronting image on Instagram to remind fans of the importance of regular skin checks. The 44-year-old posted a black-and-white photo showing him in an office with a plaster on his nose, captioning it: 'Another day, another skin cancer removed.' He tagged his surgeon, Dr Bish Soliman, calling him the 'best in the business'.

Clarke, who has battled skin cancer since his first diagnosis in 2006, admitted in a 2023 interview with the Daily Telegraph that his health scares have left him fearing for his future with his seven-year-old daughter, Kelsey Lee. 'It does scare me. I am a dad – I don't want to go anywhere,' he said. 'The most important thing in the world is making sure I help my seven-year-old daughter and I guess set a good example for her.'

The sportsman attributes his recurring skin cancers to long hours in the sun during his cricketing career. He described fielding all day in India, wearing short-sleeved shirts and a baggy green cap that left his ears, face, arms and hands exposed. In a previous Instagram post from earlier in 2025, he shared a picture from a hospital bed with the caption: 'Skin cancer Friday. Go get checked please.' He also had a skin cancer removed from his forehead in March 2022.

Clarke has been a vocal advocate for skin cancer awareness, appearing in a 2014 Cancer Council campaign where he advised fans to 'keep a close eye on your skin, particularly look in those hard to see places, and familiarise yourself with your body.' He told Seven's The Morning Show in 2018 that he undergoes routine check-ups every six to 12 months.
