NHS-Approved Phone Trick Helps People Drink Six to Eight Glasses of Water Daily
NHS Phone Trick for Daily Hydration: 6-8 Glasses

The NHS has endorsed a straightforward phone-based method to help individuals meet the recommended daily fluid intake of six to eight glasses. This technique involves using smartphone apps to set reminder notifications that prompt regular drinking throughout the day.

How the Phone Trick Works

According to a PDF guide from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, people can leverage technology to maintain hydration. The guide states: "There are several apps that exist for smartphones that you can use to set up reminder notifications that urge you to drink at regular intervals throughout the day." This approach is particularly useful for those who forget to drink regularly.

Additional Hydration Tips from the NHS

The guide also recommends other strategies: drinking flavoured or fruit teas, carrying a water bottle at all times, using mealtimes as reminders to drink, and consuming water-rich foods like fresh soups and broths. Adding flavour to water with fruit or low-sugar cordials is suggested as well.

The NHS website offers broader advice on staying hydrated with healthier drinks. It advises: "Drink regularly throughout the day. Swap sugary drinks for diet, sugar-free or no added sugar drinks. Adults can choose lower fat milk, such as semi-skimmed, 1% fat or skimmed milk and unsweetened plant-based drinks. Limit fruit juice and smoothies to a maximum of one small glass (150ml) a day and drink with a meal, as they're high in sugar."

When to Increase Fluid Intake

People may need more than six to eight glasses during periods of physical activity or illness. The NHS notes: "Drink extra fluids if you've been sweating from physical activity, or if you're unwell – water is the best way to replace lost fluids." It also warns against high-sugar drinks and advises limiting caffeine to 200mg per day for pregnant women to reduce risks.

By incorporating these NHS-approved methods, individuals can effortlessly achieve their daily hydration goals and support overall health.
