M&S Recalls Truffle Gouda Over Listeria Fears

Marks & Spencer has issued an urgent recall on its M&S Food Truffle Gouda cheese due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious illness. The recall notice has been published on the retailer's website and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) portal.

Product Details and Recall Reason

The affected product is the M&S Food Truffle Gouda, with a pack size of 150g and product code 29424887. Only items with a use-by date of October 9, 2026 are impacted. The recall was initiated after routine testing detected Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen that poses particular risks to vulnerable groups.

Health Risks and Symptoms

According to the FSA, symptoms of listeriosis can resemble flu, including high temperature, muscle aches, chills, nausea, and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can become severe, leading to complications such as meningitis. Those over 65, pregnant women, unborn babies, infants under one month, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk.
