Harry Redknapp has shared a health update after being diagnosed with hearing loss, a condition his wife Sandra first flagged. The former football manager and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! champion, 79, now wears hearing aids but admits he frequently forgets to use them.
Diagnosis Came as a Surprise
Speaking exclusively at Shoreditch's Ruffians Barber Shop for World Cuts, a Viagogo and Ruffian football activation, Redknapp said he was unaware of any problem until Sandra urged him to get tested. 'I didn't even think I had a problem until I went for a hearing test and then they said, 'Oh you're way down',' he explained.
Redknapp, who won I'm a Celebrity... South Africa in 2026, revealed he often leaves his hearing aids at home. 'I've come out to go into London and I've left my hearing aids at home,' he said. 'I had them on charge and came out without them.' Despite this, he insisted, 'I'm okay without them, yeah, I can survive.'
Wife Sandra's Concerns
Sandra Redknapp first noticed her husband's hearing difficulties during conversations. 'He used to say I was whispering when I wasn't whispering,' she told This Morning earlier this year. 'If we went out for dinner and there was a group of people, I could sense that he wasn't hearing the conversation or joining in.'
Redknapp had previously described his hearing loss as 'dangerous', citing incidents like leaving his car indicators on while driving. 'It could've caused accidents,' he admitted on This Morning.
No Plans to Slow Down
With his 80th birthday approaching next year, Redknapp said he has no intention of retiring. 'I like to keep busy, waking up to something to do everyday is good,' he said, noting his diary remains full. However, he ruled out further reality TV appearances. 'I've had enough of them now. It was good fun but no, I was asked to do Strictly years ago and I didn't want to do it really,' he said.
Reflection on I'm a Celebrity
Redknapp reached the final of I'm a Celebrity... South Africa, which was won by Adam Thomas. He commented on the dispute between Thomas and fellow campmates David Haye and Jimmy Bullard, saying it 'all got blown up a bit' and involved 'banter' on both sides.
