Harry Redknapp has shared an update on a health diagnosis that took him by surprise. The 79-year-old former football manager and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star was diagnosed with hearing loss after his wife, Sandra, expressed concerns. He now uses hearing aids but admits he often forgets to wear them.
Diagnosis Came as a Surprise
Speaking exclusively to us at Shoreditch's Ruffians Barber Shop for World Cuts, a football-inspired activation from Viagogo and Ruffian, Redknapp revealed he regularly forgets his hearing aids. "I've come out to go into London and I've left my hearing aids at home," he said. "Yeah, I haven't had them in lately, it's so stupid ain't it. I had them on charge and came out without them," he laughed.
Recalling the diagnosis, he added: "I didn't even think I had a problem until I went for a hearing test and then they said, 'Oh you're a way down', so that's why I got them really."
Wife Sandra Noticed First
Redknapp was unaware of the issue until Sandra noticed he was struggling to hear. On This Morning earlier this year, he described his hearing issues as "dangerous," citing incidents like leaving his indicators on while driving. Sandra added: "He used to say I was whispering when I wasn't whispering. Then, if we went out for dinner and there was a group of people, I could sense that he wasn't hearing the conversation or joining in."
Health and Future Plans
Approaching his 80th birthday next year, Redknapp said his overall health is good: "Yeah touch wood, we're all good!" He has no plans to slow down: "I like to keep busy, waking up to something to do everyday is good." However, he ruled out another reality show, having reached the final of I'm a Celebrity... South Africa 2026, won by Adam Thomas. "I've had enough of them now. It was good fun but no I was asked to do Strictly years ago and I didn't want to do it really," he said.
