The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a food recall notice for several Full On Flapjacks products because they contain undeclared allergens, posing a possible health risk to people with certain allergies or intolerances. The recall applies to England and Wales.
Affected flapjack products
The recalled products include Bakewell Flapjack, Raspberry Yoghurt Flapjack, White Chocolate Flapjack, Blueberry Swirl Flapjack, and Caramel Flapjack. All pack sizes and all best-before dates are affected. The Bakewell Flapjack contains undeclared almonds (nuts), soya, and wheat (gluten), while the other four products contain undeclared soya and wheat (gluten).
The FSA said: "These products contain almonds, soya and wheat, making them a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to almonds (nuts) or soya, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat containing gluten, or with coeliac disease."
Consumer advice and company response
The FSA added: "Full On Flapjacks is recalling the above products from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The business has issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products."
Consumers who have bought the affected products and have an allergy to almonds (nuts) or soya, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat containing gluten, or with coeliac disease, are advised not to eat them. They should return them to the store where they were bought for a full refund. Full On Flapjacks said: "If you have bought any of the affected products listed above and you have an allergy to almond, soya or wheat, do not eat them. Instead, return the product to the store from which you purchased it for a full refund. For further information, please contact: migginshandbake@gmail.com."
Other recent snack bar recall
Last week, Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars were recalled due to allergy concerns after they were mistakenly packaged in Skinny Whip Toffee bar wrappers, which fail to list peanuts as an ingredient. This poses a possible health risk to anyone with a peanut allergy, and the affected bars were recalled from Asda and Sainsbury's. Halo Foods said: "Halo Foods apologises for any inconvenience caused and is taking this matter seriously, please note that no other Skinny products are affected by this action."
The affected Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars have a pack size of five x 20g, batch code 6238 (08:30 - 10:30), and best before August 2027.
Why allergy alerts are issued
The FSA issues allergy alerts when there are problems with food items that should not be sold. It explained: "Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert."
