A home cook on TikTok has shared a simple way to add 75g of protein to homemade soup using two common ingredients: bone broth and cottage cheese. The recipe, posted by user Keto Recipes [@ketorecipes], is said to be tasty and creamy, making it an ideal warming meal as temperatures drop.
How to make the protein-packed soup
The creator begins by halving a butternut squash, scooping out the insides, and scoring it diagonally with a knife. The squash is placed in an oven-proof dish with chopped red onion and bell peppers. Before roasting, olive oil is drizzled over everything, seasoned with salt and preferred spices, and a garlic bulb is added to the dish.
The combination is roasted in the oven at 210C for around 45 to 50 minutes. Once done, the creator advises blending it all together with the two “undisputed protein superstars”: bone broth and cottage cheese.
Finishing touches and community response
In the video's caption, the creator reveals he uses approximately 500ml of bone broth and three-quarters of a tub of cottage cheese to finish the soup. For an extra touch, the soup can be topped with a swirl of cream or freshly chopped herbs.
The hack has gained significant attention, with viewers adding their own twists. One user commented: “I made it tonight, but swapped the squash for sweet potatoes.” Another wrote: “Cottage cheese? I have to try it now. Great idea!” A third said: “Butternut squash is the bomb. I seasoned this with rosemary and thyme.” A fourth observed: “This seems deceptively simple. Haven't seen it with the bone broth or cottage cheese before.”
