ITV's Dr Amir Reveals Simple Trick to Spot Skin Cancer Early – Could Save Your Life
Dr Amir's life-saving skin cancer detection trick

ITV's beloved resident doctor, Dr Amir Khan, has issued an urgent warning about the rising cases of skin cancer in the UK. In a recent segment, he shared a life-saving trick to help people spot the early signs of melanoma – the deadliest form of skin cancer.

The ABCDE Method: Your Skin Check Guide

Dr Khan emphasised the importance of the ABCDE method when examining moles or suspicious marks:

  • Asymmetry: Irregular shapes that don't match on both sides
  • Border: Blurred or jagged edges
  • Colour: Multiple shades or unusual colours
  • Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
  • Evolving: Changes in size, shape or colour over time

Why Early Detection Matters

"Melanoma survival rates drop dramatically when detected late," Dr Khan explained. "When caught early, treatment is often simple and highly effective. But delay can be deadly."

The NHS doctor stressed that everyone should perform regular skin checks, especially those with:

  1. Fair skin that burns easily
  2. A history of sunburn
  3. Multiple or unusual moles
  4. A family history of skin cancer

Sun Protection Is Non-Negotiable

Dr Khan also reminded viewers that prevention is key. He recommends:

  • Using minimum SPF 30 sunscreen daily
  • Reapplying every two hours when outdoors
  • Wearing protective clothing and seeking shade
  • Avoiding sunbeds completely

"Don't wait for symptoms," he urged. "Make skin checks part of your routine, like brushing your teeth. It could literally save your life."
