Depo-Provera Brain Tumour Risk: NHS Scotland Must Update Guidance
Depo-Provera Risks: NHS Scotland Must Update Guidance

A solicitor representing 150 women from Scotland in legal action against Pfizer over the contraceptive jab Depo-Provera says no woman should be prescribed the drug without being fully informed of the increased health risks. The jab has been linked to brain tumours, bulging eyes, scars and sight loss after consistent use.

Among the claimants is a 47-year-old woman who used the injection on and off for several years before four tumours were discovered inside her skull. NHS guidelines currently state there is a 'small chance' of developing a brain tumour from frequent use of the jab, but a 2024 study found women who used Depo-Provera were five times more likely to be diagnosed with non-cancerous brain tumours.

Legal Actions Underway

Legal actions against Pfizer are already underway in England and the US, with further cases likely elsewhere. When the Record first reported on Depo-Provera in February, only a handful of women in Scotland had gone public. That figure has since snowballed to 150, and the real number of potential victims in Scotland is likely far higher.

Emma Bruce, the solicitor representing the women, said: 'No woman should be prescribed Depo-Provera without first being fully informed of the increased health risks it carries.' The Record view is that it is now vital the NHS in Scotland updates its guidance on how the drug is used.

Farage's Donations Scrutiny

In other news, Nigel Farage faces increasing scrutiny after it was revealed he accepted a £5 million donation shortly before becoming an MP in 2024. He insists it is a private matter, but his decision to quit Parliament and force a by-election in Clacton looks a huge error of judgement. He must explain where all donations come from and what donors expect in return.
