Carol Vorderman, the 65-year-old Welsh TV presenter, has revealed she was hospitalised after a fall left her unconscious. The incident occurred at the end of May while she was walking near her home.
Details of the Fall
Vorderman shared her experience on Instagram, explaining that she tripped over a tree root on a public footpath. 'I went smash here on the tarmac path and I was unconscious,' she said. An ambulance took her to the Bristol Royal Infirmary. She noted that the song 'The Final Countdown' by Europe played in the ambulance, which she found amusing.
Hospitalisation and Symptoms
She was discharged the following day but experienced 'massive vomiting, all the bad signs,' leading to a return to the hospital. CT scans were performed. Vorderman had a black eye and bruises on her face for three to four weeks. After two to three weeks, she developed dizziness, feeling as if she was 'walking on a moving ship' and knocking into walls.
The Epley Manoeuvre
To treat the dizziness, Vorderman underwent the Epley manoeuvre, a series of head movements that reposition tiny crystals in the ears. She described the first session as feeling like 'falling off the edge of the earth,' with her eyes moving rapidly. After three sessions with a physio, 95% of the symptoms resolved. Vorderman emphasised that she is not a doctor and is only sharing her personal experience.
Recovery
Vorderman now feels much better after the treatments. She had been largely offline during her recovery but is now back to normal activities.
