Catholic Priest Warns Global Events May Herald Antichrist's Economic Rise
A Catholic priest has delivered a sobering analysis suggesting that contemporary global developments might be aligning with theological predictions about the eventual emergence of the Antichrist. Father Chad Ripperger, speaking on the Shawn Ryan Show, articulated that this figure, central to Christian eschatology, would likely ascend to power not through conventional political governance but through dominion over the world's economic systems.
The Stage is Set for Moral and Economic Control
Father Ripperger posited that several prerequisites outlined by early Church theologians appear to be materialising in modern society. He pointed to what he described as a decades-long widespread moral collapse, beginning notably in the 1950s, where adherence to divine and natural law has significantly eroded. "That's happened since the 1950s. There's been an implosion where people just aren't following the laws of God and of the natural law in any sense of the term," Ripperger stated, concurring that the foundational conditions are now established.
He elaborated that the Antichrist's authority would be cemented through centralised economic control, a scenario made increasingly plausible by today's interconnected financial networks and emerging digital technologies. This control, he suggested, could manifest as a system regulating who can participate in commerce, echoing the biblical "mark of the beast" described in the Book of Revelation.
Digital Currencies and the Mark of the Beast
Ripperger drew direct parallels between prophetic descriptions and potential modern implementations. "That's why they talk about the mark of the beast," he explained. "Well, we're almost there, where they could literally just decide, look, unless you're going to sign off on certain things, you're not going to have access to the digital currency that we're going to enact worldwide."
He theorised that technologies such as microchips or advanced digital identification systems could fulfil this role, acting as a physical or digital marker granting access to essential societal functions like purchasing food and goods. In Catholic teaching, this is viewed as an inversion of the spiritual mark received during baptism, which signifies belonging to Christ.
Charismatic Deception and Ultimate Confrontation
The priest described the Antichrist as an end-times figure of immense charisma, empowered by Satan to deceive many. "They say that the antichrist will be so charismatic, and unless a person has specific graces from God, you're going to easily get sucked into what he teaches and what he professes," Ripperger told Ryan. This figure would reject Christ while presenting himself as a global saviour, potentially initially as a peacemaker in regions like the Middle East before revealing his true nature.
According to these interpretations, the narrative culminates with the return of two biblical prophets, Elijah and Enoch, to preach against the Antichrist. They would ultimately be killed before Christ's return and the adversary's defeat. Ripperger emphasised that believers rejecting the mark might face severe persecution and difficult choices, requiring willingness to sacrifice temporal goods for spiritual fidelity.
Caution on Imminence Amidst Rapid Change
While outlining these prophetic elements, Father Ripperger offered a note of caution regarding timing. "I don't think that he's just immediately around the corner," he said. "But I could be wrong in that." He stressed that he cannot declare these events as imminent with certainty.
Nevertheless, he warned that the accelerating pace of technological innovation and the restructuring of global economic and social systems may be incrementally creating the precise conditions ancient prophecies described. This convergence, he suggested, warrants serious reflection on the potential spiritual and practical implications of centralized digital control mechanisms in our contemporary world.
