Jesy Nelson Celebrates Twin Daughters' Feeding Milestone Amid SMA Battle
Jesy Nelson Twin Daughters Feeding Milestone SMA

Singer Jesy Nelson marked a significant milestone with her 11-month-old twin daughters on Tuesday, sharing a heartwarming video of Ocean and Story trying food in their specialised feeding chairs for the first time.

A Bittersweet Moment

The 34-year-old former Little Mix star posted the clip on Instagram, showing the twins sampling fruit puree. In the video, Jesy playfully scolded Ocean: 'Excuse me, you're supposed to eat it, not spit it out,' while Story appeared to enjoy the sweet treat.

This milestone carried deep emotional weight for Nelson, who revealed in January that her daughters had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare muscle-wasting condition. When the specialized chairs arrived in February, she admitted bursting into tears.

Campaigning for Change

Since the diagnosis, Nelson has campaigned tirelessly for the NHS to introduce newborn testing for SMA1. A late diagnosis meant her twins will be unable to walk. Last month, Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced plans to screen over 400,000 babies for the condition from October 2026, following the UK's National Screening Committee's earlier rejection.

Nelson recently visited the Prime Minister's residence, capturing selfies and writing: 'When life throws you lemons...' However, she noted that only certain areas in England will initially carry out the tests, describing it as a 'postcode lottery.'

Ongoing Fight

In a recent update, Nelson explained: 'It is a bit bittersweet because basically they are only doing it in certain areas of England, so if you do not live in that certain postcode or part of England then your baby won't be tested for SMA, which is really sad.'

She vowed to continue pushing for nationwide screening, adding: 'All babies lives matter, so as amazing as it is there is still a long way to go.' A petition with 100,000 signatures will now be debated in parliament, a milestone she credited to her supporters.
