Ulrika Jonsson has given fans a candid health update after undergoing her third varicose vein treatment, describing the procedure as "painful, uncomfortable and not the sexiest thing in the world". The 58-year-old TV presenter took to Instagram on Friday to share photos from her hospital bed, clad in a medical gown and compression stockings.
Jonsson revealed that the operation was her third and final bout with the treatment, with her last visit 21 years ago. She explained that modern techniques now involve "microwaving" and "foaming" the veins, in addition to the traditional removal method. Despite the discomfort, she indicated the result was successful, though recovery has been less than agreeable.
In her Instagram post, Jonsson wrote: "It was complex but successful and aside from my legs being suffocated by surgical stockings and bleeding like vertical colanders, having someone make me a cheese and ham toastie was a bit of a treat." She also praised her consultant, Mr Northeast, for his care.
Jonsson described a previous pioneering treatment in October, where a wire was passed through her jugular vein to embolise veins feeding the legs, all while she was awake. She has been advised to rest for eight days, though she joked that staying still might be challenging, quipping: "Send healing vibes and baked goods."
The hospital admission comes weeks after Jonsson spoke candidly about her struggle with alcohol dependency. On Spencer Matthews' podcast UNTAPPED, she recalled a heartbreaking phone call with her best friend that prompted her to face her drinking problem. Now more than a year sober, she has credited that moment with saving her life.
