Ten NHS staff members from five London hospitals were given stunning makeovers and a professional photoshoot as a gesture of thanks for their work during the Covid-19 pandemic. The event, organised by Concorde Media and photographer Amanda Akokhia, took place at a studio in London.
The hospitals involved were St George's, University College Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas', and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Each nominated two members of staff to participate, who were treated to new outfits, hairstyles, and make-up.
Among those transformed were Stephanie Argue, a clinical trial coordinator at University College Hospital, and Aster Calma, a paediatric staff nurse at St George's Hospital. Calma said: 'I am sure I'm not the only one who has felt exhausted at times because of this pandemic but its little things like this that helps us get through.'
Physiotherapist Jordan Lewis from St Bartholomew's Hospital also took part, looking dashing in a striped polo shirt in his after photo. The staff enjoyed lunch from a nearby Italian restaurant and visits from celebrities including comedian Brian Conley and former Love Island contestants.
Photographer Amanda Akokhia said before the event: 'I believe the photo shoot will be a day to take memorable images of these heroes who continue to risk their lives to treat patients in these very challenging times.'
