NHS Radiographer Removed from Register Following Sexual Misconduct Tribunal
A National Health Service radiographer has been struck off the professional register after a disciplinary panel found he engaged in gross misconduct by making unwanted sexual advances towards junior colleagues. Christopher Gyiripah, who worked at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, was dismissed from his role in April 2022 following an investigation, with a final Health and Care Professionals Tribunal Service hearing in February 2026 concluding his name should be removed.
Inappropriate Behaviour and Unwanted Advances
The tribunal heard detailed evidence of Mr Gyiripah's conduct, which included asking a trainee colleague, referred to as Colleague D, personal questions during her theatre training week. He inquired whether she had a boyfriend and what type of relationship she preferred, specifically asking if she liked "an open one." In another instance, he asked another staff member, Colleague E, to sit on his lap while making a patting gesture on his thigh, which left her feeling very uncomfortable.
Further allegations revealed that Mr Gyiripah exploited his position of power for sexual gratification, according to the panel's findings. Although he admitted to a power imbalance as a senior staff member, he denied any sexual motivation, describing himself as a "friendly person" with platonic relationships. However, the tribunal determined his actions created an intimidating environment, potentially affecting colleagues' ability to care for patients.
Detailed Accounts of Harassment
Colleague D provided testimony that in 2018, Mr Gyiripah looked her up on Facebook on his phone in her presence, commenting that she "looked hot and had a nice arse" while viewing her profile pictures. He also discovered she was living in hospital accommodation and asked for her room number, suggesting he could "pop over during a night shift and give her a surprise." Despite her refusal, he reportedly asked other colleagues about her room location.
In November 2018, during a shift together, Mr Gyiripah hugged Colleague D and squeezed her bottom. When she told him to leave her alone, he responded, "Why? I felt like touching you, so I did." He allegedly added that if she reported him, no one would believe her because "no one knows you… everyone knows me and respects me," or words to that effect.
Impact on Workplace and Colleagues
Colleague E, who worked with Mr Gyiripah weekly from March 2020, reported that during a night shift in January 2021, he stared at her in an "intense, creepy and perverted manner" while she played music on her computer and asked her to dance with him. The radiology general manager, Colleague H, stated she received multiple complaints of similar nature regarding the radiographer's alleged sexual misconduct in the workplace.
Mr Gyiripah was accused of laughing off the allegations and calling witnesses liars. The panel found all allegations proven, noting that his behaviour led to colleagues refusing to work shifts with him, further disrupting the hospital environment. Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has been contacted for comment regarding the case.
