NHS Doctor Erased from Register Over Support for 'Eunuch Maker' Crimes
A National Health Service doctor has been permanently struck off after a tribunal found he supported and encouraged his roommate to perform extreme fetishistic body amputations in their London residence. Dr Baraa Almasri lived with Marius Gustavson, infamously known as the 'eunuch maker' due to his website of the same name, where he conducted illegal surgical procedures from their basement flat in Haringey.
Disturbing Details of the Criminal Enterprise
The tribunal heard that Gustavson's activities included freezing and amputating limbs, performing illegal castrations, and even cooking human testicles to consume in salads. Text messages between Dr Almasri and Gustavson revealed that the doctor viewed his roommate's criminal behaviour as a source of humour and amusement, telling Gustavson "you're being naughty" while receiving dozens of graphic images documenting the procedures.
Marius Gustavson, originally from Norway, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years following a trial at the Old Bailey in 2024. His crimes involved performing irreversible procedures on individuals as young as 16 years old. All alleged victims were reportedly part of a society where people willingly undergo extreme body modification.
Doctor's Background and Relationship with Gustavson
Dr Almasri arrived in the United Kingdom from Romania in 2019 to undertake an unpaid work partnership at Essex Partnership University Trust, having previously worked in the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. He completed further placements at Rochford Hospital, Basildon mental health unit, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping between November 2019 and February 2021.
The tribunal established that Dr Almasri first met Gustavson in January 2019, with the pair exchanging numerous text messages over the following year before the doctor moved into Gustavson's home in February 2020. In these communications, Dr Almasri acknowledged that many individuals involved had treatable psychiatric problems but made no attempt to intervene or report the Norwegian to authorities.
Financial Motives and Evidence Discovery
Between 2017 and 2021, Gustavson generated more than £300,000 from his 'Eunuch Maker' website by posting gruesome videos of procedures that users could download for a fee. Police investigations later discovered that he had preserved amputated body parts from his victims as "trophies" in his freezer.
Dr Almasri was arrested in December 2021 after concerns emerged about his relationship with Gustavson. During questioning, he provided no comment responses to all inquiries. Investigators subsequently recovered multiple messages between the pair from his mobile device, despite his refusal to provide access codes or passwords.
Tribunal Findings and Professional Consequences
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service report stated: "In the tribunal's view, the messages demonstrate that Dr Almasri appeared supportive of Mr A's activities. He showed interest in those procedures and in helping with the website and the procedures themselves in the future."
The tribunal noted that discussions about these activities spanned more than one year, during which Dr Almasri never attempted to dissuade Gustavson from continuing. Instead, the communications suggested encouragement, with Dr Almasri expressing willingness to learn surgical techniques from Gustavson despite acknowledging his own lack of skill.
The tribunal concluded that Dr Almasri "demonstrated a willingness to be a part of the enterprise" once his medical examinations concluded, with text messages indicating his intention to observe a procedure. Dr Almasri did not attend the hearing earlier this month, stating he could not afford legal representation.
The MPTS determined that Dr Almasri's conduct was "so serious as to be fundamentally incompatible with continued registration" and ordered his permanent erasure from the medical register, ending his career in British healthcare.
