5-Minute NHS Quiz Boosts Mood & Energy for Millions of Britons
New 5-Minute NHS Quiz to Boost Your Mood & Energy

Millions of people across Britain can now potentially enhance their mood and increase their energy levels in just five minutes, thanks to a new digital tool launched by the NHS. The innovative Healthy Choices Quiz, which went live today, is designed to provide immediate, personalised health guidance.

How the Healthy Choices Quiz Works

The quiz asks users a series of straightforward questions covering key lifestyle areas. These include your approach to nutrition, physical movement, smoking and vaping habits, alcohol consumption, mental health, and sleep patterns.

Based on the responses, individuals receive an overall score out of 10, offering a clear snapshot of their current wellbeing. More importantly, the system generates tailored advice and provides direct links to a suite of free, trusted NHS apps and tools. Examples highlighted include the Active 10 walking app for fitness and the NHS Every Mind Matters resource for managing anxiety, stress, and improving sleep.

Expert and Public Backing for the Initiative

Health Minister Ashley Dalton endorsed the quiz, stating it could be a vital first step towards a healthier life. "Taking this quick and easy quiz could be the first step for people to live healthier and happier lives," she said. "This simple, free and easily available quiz will bring expert NHS advice to your fingertips as part of our 10-Year Health Plan to move from treating sickness to preventing it."

The initiative is particularly aimed at encouraging adults, especially those aged 40 to 60 and from more deprived backgrounds, to take proactive control of their health. This strategy is supported by a recent review from University College London, which estimated that a staggering 19 million adults in midlife could improve their mood by making positive lifestyle changes. The research underscored that benefits, such as enhanced mental wellbeing from increased physical activity, can be felt in as little as four weeks.

Dr Radha Modgil, an NHS GP and broadcaster, expressed her excitement about the tool. "As a GP, I know how important it is to make healthy changes that fit into your everyday routine, but knowing where to begin can be tough," she commented. "It's a simple first step that helps you understand where you're at and gives you manageable tips that can boost your energy, lift your mood, and improve your physical and mental wellbeing."

Real-World Success Stories

The quiz has already demonstrated its practical value for users like Melissa, a 41-year-old from London. "As a busy mum juggling work and family life, it's easy for healthy habits to slip," she shared. "Tools like the Healthy Choices Quiz are great for helping people like me find simple ways to get back on track. It's pointed me in the direction of making healthier food choices, and shared some great advice on how to sleep better."

TV and radio presenters Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom have also championed the quiz, featuring in a short film to showcase its simplicity. Haywood-Williams, who has become more health-conscious since becoming a father, said, "It's quick, easy, and gives you a clear picture of where you're at with your health. It gave me loads of practical tips that I can actually fit into my life."

Odoom added that the quiz provided him with a fresh perspective, particularly on nutrition. "Eating better is still a work in progress, but the Healthy Choices Quiz gave me a fresh perspective - especially on things like fibre, which I hadn't really thought about," he explained. "It's helped me figure out realistic changes that really fit my lifestyle."

This new tool represents a significant shift towards preventative healthcare, empowering individuals across the UK to take manageable steps towards a healthier and happier future.
