British Model Dies After Botched £6,000 Breast Surgery in Majorca

A British model has died following a botched breast augmentation surgery in Majorca. Donna Butterfield, 29, from Wrexham, paid £6,000 in cash for two cosmetic procedures at a private clinic in Palma on September 1. During the second operation, she suffered a cardiac arrest due to a 'series of complications'. She was admitted to intensive care at Son Espases University Hospital but died on September 14.

The clinic's manager, aged 69, has been arrested and charged with gross negligence manslaughter. He was already serving a sentence for medical negligence and fraud. An anaesthetist has also been charged with homicide due to professional negligence. The main surgeon died of a terminal illness in Switzerland two months after the surgery, and no further action can be taken against him.

Police found several irregularities in the case. The consent form was entirely in Spanish, a language Ms Butterfield could not speak or read. She also had a congenital heart defect affecting 25% of her heart function, but no pre-operative assessments were conducted despite doctors being aware of the condition.

Ms Butterfield's sister, Jenna, thanked wellwishers for fundraising to bring her body back to Wrexham. 'Because of everyone's efforts Donna is now back home where she belongs,' she said. A friend described her as 'an amazing beautiful person taken too soon'.
