L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, forcing her to withdraw from the band's farewell tour. The all-female grunge group announced the news on Instagram, stating that Finch requires extensive medical care after multiple surgeries and complications.
Tour to proceed without Finch
L7, formed in Los Angeles 40 years ago, were set to embark on their Last Hurrah Tour in October 2026. The band explained that the tour was planned when all four members were in good health, but Finch has asked them to continue without her. 'We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority,' the band wrote.
Fundraising and support
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Finch's medical fees, in-home nursing care, and other expenses. The goal is $350,000 (£262,000), and over $213,300 (£159,700) has been raised so far. Notable donors include Garbage ($8,000), Kathleen Hanna, Melanie Lynskey, Adrienne Armstrong, and Bikini Kill. Finch's team told Entertainment Weekly: 'The amount of love she’s receiving is mind-blowing and speaks to the impact she’s had on people across different facets of life worldwide.' Part of the funds will go toward a significant creative project scheduled for release next year.
Finch's legacy
Finch joined L7 in 1986 and became a driving force behind their success. The band is best known for their 1992 single 'Pretend We're Dead,' which peaked at No. 21 on the UK singles chart. Finch has also worked as a photographer and actress. Her family shared a photo of her in a hospital bed, captioning it: 'Jennifer has spent her life making noise. Making art. Making history. Challenging expectations. Kicking down doors. Showing up for people. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.'
