Former Try Guys personality Ned Fulmer has publicly revealed he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2013, keeping his health condition secret for over a decade.
A Decade-Long Secret Revealed
Three years after his departure from the Try Guys following a cheating scandal, the 38-year-old YouTuber and podcaster opened up about his experience with MS in an emotional video posted to his channel on Sunday. Fulmer partnered with Walk MS to raise awareness about the incurable autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.
"This is a cause that's really important to me because I actually have MS," Fulmer confessed in the video. "It's been something that I've been afraid to talk about and wanted to keep a secret, but I'm trying to be more open about myself, and hopefully my story can help other people."
The Daily Reality of Living with MS
In his YouTube video description, Fulmer provided insight into his daily struggle with the condition. "Living with MS for me means numbness in my hands on a daily basis and living in fear of waking up one day and not being able to walk," he wrote.
The content creator recalled a terrifying incident in 2013 when he woke up completely unable to walk. He described how MS symptoms can vary dramatically between individuals, noting that "for others it could be vision, sensory, bladder, or mobility issues."
Fulmer challenged himself to walk as far as possible without stopping to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, pledging to donate $1,000 for every 10 miles he walked. During his fundraising effort, he documented reaching the 22-mile mark before breaking down in tears while recalling his initial hospitalisation.
From Hospital Bed to Remission
The former internet personality shared a harrowing account of collapsing in his bathroom during the night and being unable to get off the floor, which led to an emergency hospital visit. "I remember sitting in that hospital bed and it getting worse and just being so scared, wondering if I was going to be able to walk again, or what was going to happen to me. I was so confused," he said through tears.
Fulmer's recovery involved steroid injections and a plasma exchange. He now manages his condition with sensory issues that he describes as manageable through taking an oral medication twice daily.
"I was keeping it a really big secret for a long time and I don't think that was very helpful for me," Fulmer reflected. "So I'm trying to be more open with it, especially in conversation. And I'm very grateful to be in remission and I am very happy to be making this video."
The emotional video concluded with Fulmer sobbing on the ground after completing 26 miles for his fundraising challenge.
This health revelation comes following Fulmer's separation from his wife Ariel Fulmer in September, three years after he admitted to an extramarital affair with an employee at his production company. The former couple share two sons together.
