Brittany Siegrist, the wife of former Celtic and Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist, has shared the blunt four-word reply she gives to people who ask about when the couple plans to have children. In a candid Instagram post, she revealed: "I can't fall pregnant."
Fertility Struggles Laid Bare
The couple, who met in 2022 and married in a lavish Bali ceremony three years later, often share glimpses of their life on social media. Benjamin, a Swiss goalkeeper, is currently on loan at Italian Serie A club Genoa FC, while Brittany, an Australian podcast host and presenter, uses her platform to discuss their fertility journey.
Brittany told her 290,000 Instagram followers: "I'm 38. Married. I travel the world. No kids. Everyday I get asked why I don't have kids or when I'm having them. That I am missing out. To that I say. I can't fall pregnant. I hope that answers your questions."
Honesty About Infertility
In her caption, she continued: "It's not for lack of trying trust me. No harm is ever meant when people ask, I know that. And my answer might sound blunt. But we haven't been able to fall pregnant."
She added: "This is just the truth of it. And anyone that struggles with infertility knows, it consumes your life and your thoughts. Because I also wonder when and if we will have kids."
Support from Followers
Since her brave post, many have reached out to support her. One follower said: "Sending love and holding hope for you guys. What an amazing adventure you are having." Another posted: "And living your best life." A third commented: "What an absolutely inspiring and beautiful perspective. I wish for and honestly see only a path of happiness for you two – regardless of what that path looks like."
Advice for Those Struggling
Brittany acknowledged the toll infertility takes: "It truly is exhausting. So anyone going through it, I get it. I get you. I feel you. There's a lot of us! But I hope you're still able to enjoy life while you're in the thick of it because it's easy to let it completely take over."
She concluded: "But it would be a shame to miss life's beautiful moments that are still happening. Because life is still happening, and we get just one. Hopefully it happens for us. Until then, I guess we just keep travelling and enjoying life and hey, trying in different tropical locations isn't the worst."
In the UK, those under 35 who have been trying to conceive for 12 months should see a GP, while those over 35 are advised to seek help after six months. Experts recommend cycle tracking, limiting alcohol and caffeine, and maintaining a healthy weight.
