Beverley Callard Reveals Doctors' Concern Over Delayed Radiotherapy Start
Beverley Callard: Doctors Concerned Over Radiotherapy Delay

Beverley Callard has revealed that medical professionals expressed concern that she should have commenced radiotherapy earlier following her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year. The 69-year-old star of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! admitted it 'wasn't what she wanted to hear' after attending hospital to discuss a treatment plan with doctors.

Medical Records Delay

Callard, who recently relocated from England to Ireland, explained that the transfer of her medical records between the two countries took considerable time. In an Instagram video, she said: 'Well I went to the hospital today at quarter past three, and they all seemed very nice, obviously they're new to me. They are a little concerned because they think I should've started the radiotherapy before now but of course because we moved house, it took a while for my medical records to come from England to Ireland et cetera but they've all arrived.'

Next Steps

The actress, best known for her role as Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, first publicly disclosed her diagnosis on Ireland's RTE Late Late Show earlier this year. She announced at the time that she was having her lymph nodes removed as a precautionary measure to prevent the cancer from spreading. In her latest update, Callard said she must return to the hospital on Thursday morning to see more doctors, after which treatment will begin. She added: 'So it went okay, it went okay. So I will keep you updated.'

Positive News

In April, Callard shared encouraging news with fans, revealing that test results showed the cancer was on low numbers, allowing her to proceed with radiotherapy. She expressed relief and celebrated with champagne alongside her husband, Jon. The couple's joy was evident in a video where Jon exclaimed: 'What a f***ing journey!'

Support from Fans and Friends

Fans and fellow celebrities have flooded Callard with supportive messages. On Instagram, fans wrote: 'That's good. These things take time I guess. You look fabulous'; 'Every best outcome'; 'Positive vibes Beverley'; and 'We have the most amazing health care workers and everything will work out for you Bev.' Celebrity pals including Denise Welch, Seann Walsh, and GK Barry also sent their love.

Previous Health Struggles

Callard had previously been forced to withdraw from the live I'm a Celebrity... South Africa final on medical advice after experiencing a 'funny turn' during filming. At the time, she was unaware she had cancer. Reflecting on the incident, she said: 'I just watched my exit on I'm a Celeb and it made me cry all over again. Of course, I didn't know then that I had cancer but I just knew that it was the last couple of days there that I hadn't felt very well.' She lost consciousness briefly in the Bush Telegraph and was advised to leave the show. Despite the setback, Callard described her time on the show as 'the experience of a lifetime' and said she was determined to beat the disease.
