Ornate cabinet handles with heavy detailing are a key culprit. Beadle advises swapping them for minimalist or handleless options, which offer a cleaner, more contemporary look and are easier to keep clean.
Splashbacks with small tiles and many grout lines can feel cluttered and outdated. Large tiles or seamless splashbacks are recommended instead, as they are both more modern and easier to maintain.
Lighting is another area where kitchens often fall short. Over-reliance on a single harsh overhead light can create shadows and dullness. Layering with under-cabinet and ambient lighting creates a balanced, inviting space.
Finally, Beadle warns against all-grey kitchens without contrast, which can lack warmth, and mismatched finishes on taps, handles, and lighting. Cohesive materials and subtle colour variations help a kitchen feel current and planned.
