A one-year-old boy has died after choking on his mother's fake fingernail in a tragic accident at their home in Argentina. The incident occurred on Saturday, March 21, in Los Polvorines, Greater Buenos Aires.
The child, Dante Valentín Bermudes Rumi, was at home with his mother, Aylin Saucedo, a manicurist, when he began struggling to breathe. Saucedo rushed to a neighbour for help before driving her son to Dr Federico Abete Hospital. Despite efforts, the baby was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A post-mortem examination revealed that the youngster died of asphyxiation after two objects, including a fake fingernail, became lodged in his throat. A court investigation has been launched into the tragedy.
Speaking to Argentinian media, Saucedo said: 'My son died on March 21. We were at home and I realised he couldn't breathe. I ran to my neighbour's place to ask for help but there was nothing she was able to do. Then my aunt arrived and the same thing, so I put Dante in the car and we drove to hospital. It probably took me about 10 minutes in total. My son was dead when we arrived.'
After police were called to the hospital, the baby's father arrived and allegedly assaulted Saucedo, her new partner, and her father. Saucedo told Todo Noticias that her ex-partner then withheld information about the wake and funeral, preventing her from attending.
