The acclaimed documentary series 999 Critical Condition returns to Channel 5 tonight (May 12) for its sixth series, offering viewers an unflinching look at the high-pressure work of NHS trauma teams.
Filmed at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the new episode follows staff as they treat a man who impaled himself after falling from scaffolding at a church. The series, which first aired in 2020, provides raw access to life-saving treatments and critical injuries.
Described by the Guardian as 'the most nerve-shreddingly hardcore hospital doc ever', the programme has been praised by viewers for its gripping and emotional content. One social media user called it 'fascinating' and marvelled at the medical teams' skills.
Previous series were filmed at Royal Stoke University Hospital, where the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust said the show 'showcases the relentless fast pace of the department's daily workload in a way never seen before on television'.
999 Critical Condition airs weekly on Channel 5 at 9pm, with episodes available on streaming afterwards. It is essential viewing for fans of 24 Hours in A&E and medical documentaries.
