Vernon Kay disclosed on Friday's episode of Celebrity Gogglebox that he has Morton's neuroma, a nerve condition affecting his left foot, which he described as a "massive issue." The BBC Radio 2 presenter made the revelation while watching TV with his close friend Paddy McGuinness on the Channel 4 show.
What Is Morton's Neuroma?
According to the NHS, Morton's neuroma involves a thickening of tissue around a nerve in the foot, typically between the third and fourth toes. It can cause sharp, burning pain in the ball of the foot, along with tingling or numbness. Some sufferers feel as if they are stepping on a small pebble.
Kay explained: "I've got a massive issue with my left one (toe). I've got Morton's neuroma, I can't feel my left toe. All the nerve endings on my toes - I can't feel my toes." McGuinness, skeptical, squeezed Kay's toes as hard as he could, but Kay did not flinch, confirming he felt nothing.
Vernon Kay's Previous Encounter with a Foot Specialist
Kay previously shared on his Radio 2 show that he met a foot specialist at a service station while charging his electric car. He recounted: "We got chatting away... 'What do you do for a living?' 'I'm a foot specialist.'"
Treatment for Morton's neuroma often includes rest or ibuprofen, but some patients may need to consult a GP or specialist.
