Ruth Langsford Opens Up About Turning to Therapy After Acrimonious Split
Ruth Langsford has candidly discussed how she sought professional counselling to help her cope with the fallout from her highly publicised separation from husband Eamonn Holmes. The Loose Women presenter revealed the profound struggle she faced following the end of their 14-year marriage, a split that was compounded by Holmes quickly moving on to a new relationship with Katie Alexander, a relationship counsellor 22 years his junior.
A 27-Year Romance Unravelled
Langsford, who shares a 23-year-old son, Jack, with the GB News presenter, explained that therapy has been instrumental in helping her process the dissolution of their 27-year romance, which formally ended in June 2024. She stated, 'I started counselling when Eamonn and I separated, and I'm still having it. It is very powerful and very useful. It gives me tools to deal with things.' She described the process as non-judgmental and constructive, with her counsellor offering guiding questions rather than directives, helping her to understand and manage her emotions effectively.
The couple, both 65, announced their separation 18 months ago after a period of sustained arguing. Holmes subsequently left the family's £2.5million home in Weybridge. Sources close to Langsford indicated that the strain of caring for him after a hip operation had taken its toll, though it later emerged he was in a relationship with Alexander, whom he had known for several years. It is important to note that there is no suggestion Holmes was unfaithful during the marriage.
Financial Strains and a Newfound Strength
The former This Morning power couple, who were axed from the ITV show in 2021, have not yet finalised their divorce and are reportedly locked in a dispute over their finances. Langsford is said to be upset about the impending sale of the marital home, while Holmes has publicly claimed he has been 'ruined' by an HMRC investigation into his tax status during his time at ITV.
Despite the turmoil, Langsford is looking forward with renewed optimism. She declared she is now ready to find love again, saying, 'I definitely see light in the future where I didn't before.' She has embraced her independence, adding, 'I've realised I'm actually quite good on my own. I am independent and quite strong.' While not actively seeking a new relationship or ruling out marriage, she feels a sense of excitement about the next chapter of her life, a stark contrast to the initial 'darkness' she felt after the split.
Her positive outlook was evident during a festive photoshoot, where she showcased her radiant complexion in a series of stylish outfits, including a red sparkly gown and a red tartan cape. This new confidence follows a holiday to the Caribbean where she celebrated her 65th birthday with close friends, focusing on her own wellbeing and happiness as she moves forward.
