For years, alcohol was a constant companion – until it nearly killed me. Twice. My journey from heavy drinking to sobriety is a stark warning about the dangers of addiction and the power of redemption.
The First Brush with Death
It started like any other night out with friends. But what began as casual drinking spiralled into a medical emergency. I woke up in hospital with doctors telling me my blood alcohol level was so high, they were shocked I was still alive.
The Wake-Up Call I Ignored
Despite this terrifying experience, I returned to drinking within weeks. The addiction had its claws in deep. "I can handle it this time," I told myself – the classic lie of every addict.
The Second Near-Fatal Episode
Eight months later, history repeated itself in even more dramatic fashion. This time, I suffered alcohol poisoning so severe that paramedics later told my family to prepare for the worst. Miraculously, I survived again – but this time, the message finally got through.
The Road to Recovery
My path to sobriety wasn't easy. It required:
- Complete abstinence
- Professional help
- Rebuilding broken relationships
- Learning new coping mechanisms
A Message of Hope
Today, three years sober, I share my story not for sympathy, but as a warning. If my experience helps even one person reconsider their relationship with alcohol, then those two near-death experiences will have served a purpose.
Alcohol addiction doesn't discriminate. It can happen to anyone. But recovery is possible – I'm living proof.
