Gardeners' World star Adam Frost has made an emotional goodbye after leaving his Grade-II listed 18th-century home in Lincolnshire, following a health scare that led to a diagnosis of burnout and depression. The BBC gardener moved out in October 2025, downsizing from a rural farmhouse with two and a half acres of outdoor space to a much smaller property.
Emotional Farewell and Garden Memories
In a new article for Gardeners' World magazine, Frost opened up about the move, saying: “If you're leaving your house and you've gotta leave the garden that you've loved for a long period of time... if you're like me, I wouldn't worry about it at all, I've done exactly that. We left in October, what have I taken with me?” He revealed he only kept “a few little bits” that he had dug and divided, along with his pots, but otherwise “hasn’t bothered.”
Frost added: “And you know, the beautiful things is, I went back to see the couple that have bought the garden and I walked around with them and they are absolutely loving it. And I think that's a great thing to hold on to, is the fact that maybe you've just left somebody else a whole load of joy.”
Health Scare and Diagnosis
Frost originally moved into the Lincolnshire property in 2022 after falling ill with Covid-19 in 2021, which “forced him to stop and isolate.” He told The Times: “We moved to our current home in Stamford, Lincolnshire, in 2022 because I needed to simplify my life. I had been working like a lunatic. It was as if somebody had removed my footings. Emotionally, I was gone. Even my passion for gardening disappeared.”
A psychiatrist diagnosed Frost with burnout and depression, and he was put on medication. The health scare prompted him to downsize to a “much smaller” garden, reducing the workload he faced.
