Lewis Capaldi returned to Newcastle for the first time in three years, performing at Exhibition Park in front of a packed crowd. The 29-year-old Scottish singer opened up about his mental health, telling fans: "I'm back and feeling good after my breakdown."
Health Struggles and Recovery
Capaldi has previously suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, and Tourette syndrome, which led to debilitating on-stage episodes in 2023, including a halted performance at Glastonbury. He subsequently took an extended hiatus to focus on his recovery.
Gig Disruptions
During the Newcastle show, Capaldi had to stop the concert twice within the first 25 minutes due to "situations" in the crowd. He alerted security and left the stage, with big screens displaying a message asking for patience. After the first stoppage, he urged fans to "look after each other and stay hydrated." Following the second, he apologised but stressed safety, saying: "If your pals are faint, go to the side. Safety is paramount but I can't keep stopping."
Heat and Crowd Conditions
The concert took place in baking sunshine with temperatures reaching 27°C. Some attendees reported feeling crowded in the standing area. The disruptions caused delays, forcing Capaldi to cut down on crowd interaction to fit in his set before a strict curfew.
Performance Highlights
Despite the interruptions, Capaldi delivered a strong performance, including hits like Hold Me While You Wait, Forget Me, and Someone You Loved. He also played a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Have You Ever Seen the Rain. He congratulated a couple who got engaged during his set.

Capaldi promised not to wait three years before returning to Newcastle and revealed he is ready to start recording a new album.
