Texas Nurse Faces Backlash After Allegedly Delaying Labour Patient
Nurse faces backlash over labour admission delay

A hospital intake nurse in Texas is confronting intense criticism after reportedly delaying the admission of a woman who was in the advanced stages of labour, an incident captured in viral social media videos.

A Traumatic Wait in the Wheelchair

Kiara Jones was at the Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite, Texas, visibly in immense pain and on the verge of giving birth. Video footage shows her sitting in a wheelchair at the check-in desk, screaming in agony while a staff member continues to ask her questions.

Her mother, Kash Manuel, who shared the clips online, stated that the hospital kept her daughter waiting for more than 30 minutes. This delay, she claimed, left Jones mentally exhausted and traumatised. The situation reached a critical point when Jones was finally moved to a delivery room; her son, Kash, was born just 12 minutes later.

Manuel did not hold back in her criticism, writing that the delivery was AWFUL and placing significant blame on the admitting staff.

Confrontation with the Charge Nurse

In another video posted to TikTok, the distressing scene continues. Jones is seen standing up and turning around in the wheelchair, pleading with a nurse to call an anesthesiologist as her contractions intensify.

The nurse's response was that someone else would have to take her to labour and delivery, as she could not provide assistance. Manuel described the charge nurse's whole demeanour as not interested and unconcerned.

She elaborated, stating, This nurse showed a lack of emotional [support], and refusal to be concerned with my daughter's physical being, which left her feeling mentally exhausted and traumatised because at this point, she is worried about the birth of her baby.

Hospital Response and Aftermath

In a statement provided to the Daily Mail, a spokesperson for Dallas Regional Medical Center addressed the incident. The safety, dignity, and well-being of our patients are always our highest priorities, the spokesperson said.

The hospital confirmed it is reviewing this situation to understand what occurred but cited patient privacy laws for not sharing further details. They reiterated their commitment to ensuring every patient receives the attentive, respectful care they deserve.

The grandmother also revealed that both mother and baby were left stressed by the ordeal. The newborn is undergoing a series of tests because he was born with his eyes open, a detail doctors are considering. Fortunately, she reported that the baby is now eating well, sleeping well, and looking good.

In a follow-up video, Manuel added further context, alleging that when they arrived, staff told them to move their car and provided a wheelchair but did not assist in getting Jones inside the building. She also claimed they were informed that Jones could not be taken to the labour and delivery unit until the admission paperwork was signed.
