BBC's Nikki Fox Reveals Terrifying Fall: 'Left on Floor for Hours'
BBC presenter Nikki Fox details horrific fall ordeal

BBC Morning Live presenter Nikki Fox has shared a harrowing personal account of a past fall that left her helpless on the floor for several hours, using her experience to highlight crucial winter safety advice.

A Chilling Personal Revelation on Air

During the Friday, 5 December 2025 episode of BBC Morning Live, hosts Nikki Fox and Greg Rutherford discussed the increased risk of falls during the UK's cold and icy weather. The segment featured an interview with Dr Punam Krishan, who provided expert guidance on fall recovery.

Greg Rutherford opened the conversation, noting: "With the recent cold and icy weather across large parts of the UK and more expected throughout this month, the risk of a nasty fall massively increases." Nikki Fox, who lives with muscular dystrophy, agreed, emphasising that falls are common among elderly and disabled people, and that proper recovery is key.

Nikki then revealed her own traumatic experience. "I used to stack it quite a lot, especially when I was walking," she admitted. "Once I fell over and was on the floor for hours. And from that point onwards, I always carried my phone in my bra."

She explained her practical safety hack, reasoning that even in a fall, the phone would remain secure and accessible to call for help. Dr Punam Krishan praised the tip as an excellent hack, particularly for those who live alone or are in vulnerable situations like taking a hot shower, which can cause dizzy turns.

Doctor's Warning: Falls Can Affect Anyone

Dr Krishan used the platform to deliver an important public health message, stressing that the seriousness of falls is often underestimated. "Falls are very common. They can affect anyone, not just older adults or people with mobility issues or kids," she stated.

The doctor outlined a range of risk factors beyond icy pavements:

  • Fatigue
  • Medication that can cause dizziness or low blood pressure
  • Clutter in the home
  • Inappropriate footwear

She advised viewers on the best steps for recovery after a tumble, starting with carefully turning onto your side to assess for injury. "A lot of people tend to grin and bear it, but it causes more harm," Dr Krishan warned.

Nikki Fox, a respected journalist also known for appearances on The One Show and Watchdog, was named Journalist of the Year at the 2016 European Diversity Awards. Her candid discussion has helped to normalise conversations about fall prevention, a critical issue as the UK faces a prolonged cold snap.
