The Office for National Statistics has published new data showing the most popular names for girls and boys in England and Wales in 2025. The three most popular baby names for girls are Olivia, Lily, and Amelia. Lily has now overtaken Amelia as the second most popular, having risen 11 places in the last 10 years. The three most popular baby names for boys are Muhammad, Noah and Leo. Leo is a new entry in the top three, replacing Oliver which has fallen to number six.
Regional Variations
Olivia was the most popular girls' name in three out of nine regions in England and was the most popular in Wales, while Muhammad was the most popular boys' name in four out of nine regions in England and ranked 34th in Wales.
New Entries to Top 100
New entries to the top 100 baby names included Eliana, Gracie, Anaya, Alba, Marnie, Lilah and Frankie for girls, and Vincent, Carter, Stanley and Ruben for boys.
Biggest Increases in Popularity
Compared with 2024, the names with the biggest increase in popularity in the top 100 were Ada (up 54 places), Maeve (up 24 places) and Charlotte (up 24 places) for girls; and Roman (up 33 places), Harry (up 26 places) and Finley (up 25 places) for boys.
Names Dropping Out
Names that are no longer in the top 100 include Jessica (down 44 places), Ellie (down 31 places), and Amelie (down 22 places) for girls; and Bodhi (down 18 places), Grayson (down 14 places) and Brody (down 7 places) for boys.
