Historical records indicate that Buddy ranked among the most favoured dog names during the 1970s and has now climbed to third place in 2026. The leading name in the 1970s was Brandy, with Buddy, Max and King following.
Max's Return to Favour
Max also dominated throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and pet owners are increasingly choosing it once more this year. The number one name during the 1960s was Lady, while Sandy claimed the top spot in the 1950s.
