Historical data show that Buddy was one of the most popular dog names in the 1970s and is now the third most popular name in 2026, 56 years later. The top name in the 70s was Brandy, followed by Buddy, Max and King.
Max was also the most popular name in the 80s and 90s, and dog owners are starting to use it again in 2026. The single most popular name in the 1960s was Lady, while the top name in the 1950s was Sandy.
