Rice Lane Farm has confirmed the death of Pumpkin, one of its oldest residents. The Walton Park attraction is home to a variety of animals, making it a popular spot for families and animal lovers in the community.
The farm is home to goats, pigs, sheep, a donkey, pony, ducks, rabbits and chickens, with visitors able to get up close to many of the animals during their visit. Over the years, the farm’s animals have become familiar characters to regular visitors, with many forming a special connection with the livestock and returning to see their favourites.
Beloved goat laid to rest
One such animal was Pumpkin, a much-loved goat. Tragically, this week the team confirmed Pumpkin’s death. In a social media post, the team said: “Sad to announce that our beloved Pumpkin has been laid to rest.
“She went peacefully and was spoiled her entire life. Please be kind to our staff during this difficult time while they mourn a big loss to the community. Pumpkin was loved by everyone and will be missed. Rest in peace the best goat ever.”
Visitors share fond memories
The announcement prompted an outpouring of tributes from people who had met Pumpkin during visits to the farm, with many sharing fond memories of her character.
Millie Jane said: “My God the memories I have with Pumpkin, the amount of times he butted my youngster, her own fault for wanting too many cuddles and she was always fine. It just added to the laughs we have round the farm. RIP our lovely Pumpkin xx.”
Gill Clarke recalled spending time with Pumpkin and joked that visitors needed to plan ahead if the goat was in the mood for attention.
She said: “Awww, I loved her to bits. If she was in the mood for a pet, you had to go to the toilet first, because you knew you would be at her pen for hours. RIP, Queen.”
Community mourns a character
Paula Lynne Heaton remembered Pumpkin as “such a character” and shared a particularly memorable story involving her son.
She added: “Pumpkin was such a character and will be sadly missed. I remember my son was given the chance to walk her, but she was definitely walking him! So many happy memories, and I’m sure she had a great life with you.”
El Stuart also paid tribute to Pumpkin, recalling spending a week volunteering with her as part of work experience.
She said: “I am so sorry for your loss. She was definitely a cheeky girl. I volunteered with her during work experience for a week, and it was the best experience. I hope she’s getting spoiled rotten up in heaven. xxx”
