Birdwatchers are gathering before dawn at Middle Creek in Pennsylvania to witness thousands of migrating snow geese take flight from the reservoir in a swirling mass. The spectacle lasts only minutes before the birds disperse to feed in nearby farm fields.
The geese are continuing their annual spring migration north toward New York and Quebec. For several weeks each year, the event draws crowds of nature lovers to the refuge, which was created decades ago to attract waterfowl.
