A North Carolina mother visiting Grenada for a holiday has vanished, with the last footage showing her entering the water near a pier. Elizabeth Waddell, 44, was last seen on 22 July after leaving her rented accommodation near Grand Anse Beach in the capital, St George's.
Family spokesperson Amanda Romano-Harmon said the Royal Grenada Police Force obtained security camera footage that captures Waddell's final known movements. 'It shows her ... floating, swimming around, but then she floats out of the camera view and so that's the last footage of Liz,' Romano-Harmon said.
Waddell, a physical therapist from Cary, was on a three-week trip with a friend named Heather. When she failed to return, her companion searched the area and found her towel abandoned on the pier. 'Liz had literally left in a swimsuit with a towel. She didn't have her phone, ID, anything with her, no shoes,' Romano-Harmon added.
Her husband, Cailen Waddell, travelled to Grenada to assist in the search. In a Facebook post, he wrote: 'I am on my way there now to help search. I expect nothing less than Liz's safe return.' He also appealed to anyone with connections to the island to share information.
Local police have appealed to fishermen, boat operators and residents along the southern coastline to report any sightings. The U.S. State Department confirmed it is tracking the situation, advising it can assist with filing missing persons reports and understanding local procedures.
