Alexander Forrest, a drone pilot conducting aerial observations for the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (Orrca), witnessed an adult female humpback whale give birth in calm seas off the NSW north coast. The event is believed to be only the fourth complete humpback whale birth ever recorded on film worldwide, and the first documented by drone.
The footage captured the newborn calf's first moments of life, including its first breath and union with its mother. The birth occurred during the humpback migration.
