One-eyed dog 'too ugly' for new owner who pulled out

Rusty, a mixed-breed dog with one eye, is still waiting for a forever home in the UK after a potential adopter pulled out at the last minute. The decision came after the owner reportedly decided his missing eye would be too much to look at every day.

Rusty's difficult start in Greece

Rusty was found living on the streets in Megara, Greece. He is believed to have suffered an injury to his eye in a roadside accident, leaving it badly damaged and requiring surgical removal. His damaged eye is due to be removed, meaning Rusty will have just one eye, but he is expected to adapt well and continue living a happy life.

Despite his difficult start, Rusty has remained a gentle and affectionate dog. Rescuers say his appearance doesn't stop him from being a joyful and loving boy.

Looking for a patient family

Greek Stray ResQ, which is helping Rusty find a home, describes him as sweet, calm, affectionate and full of quiet warmth. Despite never truly having experienced life as someone's pet, he has plenty of love to give. Rusty has a beautiful, fluffy wolf-sable coat and a face that volunteers say always looks as though he is smiling.

He will need a patient family willing to help him learn the basics, including walking nicely on a lead and house training. But rescuers believe he has all the makings of a wonderful companion once he is given the chance to settle into a safe and loving home. At around 25kg, Rusty is still a young dog with his whole life ahead of him.
