A 10-year-old boy died after a gang of monkeys tore out his intestines in Salki village, Gujarat, India. The attack happened near a temple in November 2023, and doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Dipak Thakor was playing with friends near a temple in Gandhinagar when the monkeys attacked. One of the monkeys punctured his skin, then dug its claws into the boy, tearing out his intestines and ripping them, according to NDTV.

Dipak rushed back to his house and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. A local official told the Press Trust of India: “His intestine was ripped out in the attack. He rushed (back) to his house and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.”
The monkeys responsible for Dipak’s death had been behind multiple attacks on other people in the village. The local official added: “This is the third attack by monkeys in the village within a week.”
Forest officials had been trying to catch the monkeys
Forest official Vishal Chaudhary confirmed that the department had been trying to catch the monkeys in the village. Vishal said: “We have rescued two langurs in the past one week, and set up cages to trap another langur. There is a large troop of monkeys in the village, including four adults who have been involved in attacks in the past one week. Two of them have been rescued. Efforts are on to cage another.”
Other monkey attacks in India
This was not the only deadly attack by monkeys in India. In December 2021, two monkeys were caught by the forest department in Maharashtra after the primates supposedly killed little puppies. Locals in the village of Lavool in Beed district described it as an ‘act of revenge’, claiming the monkeys had been carrying puppies up trees and rooftops and dropping them to their deaths.
In another instance, a monkey reportedly had a bounty of 21,000 Indian Rupees on its head after it was found to be terrorising people in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh. The ape had attacked 20 people in two weeks, and the rescue team used a drone to locate it before tranquilising it with darts and putting it in a cage.
In yet another case, a three-year-old was reportedly abducted by a monkey that carried the child up a cliff. Police located the toddler after a multiple-hour search mission, and the child was safely rescued and returned to the parents, reports the New York Post.
