Mechanic names Toyota Yaris Hybrid as car he trusts most

A mechanic has named the Toyota Yaris Hybrid as the car he trusts the most, praising its reliability and low running costs. Robert Hannah, speaking to the Telegraph, said he rarely sees the model in his garage for engine repairs.

Mechanic's Verdict on Toyota

Hannah expressed his appreciation for the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, saying of the Japanese manufacturer: "I never see them coming through the garage requiring engine repairs. They're cheap to run and fairly cheap to purchase."

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid was previously reviewed by Reach Plc publication The Mirror, where it was compared against the Vauxhall Corsa hybrid in a twin test. The Toyota ultimately won that contest, with the verdict noting that while the Vauxhall offered greater comfort, the Toyota's superior handling proved the deciding factor.

Toyota's Reliability Record

The review concluded: "It's more fun, and it appeals to me more. Both cars are good, solid seven out of tens, but the Toyota appeals to me just that little bit more for its usability, handling, the sound of its engine, and how it felt like a better road trip car too."

Toyota's reputation for reliability has been further cemented by another of its models topping a survey by Auto Express. The Toyota Aygo X, a compact city car, claimed the top spot in the Driver Power Survey, which polled owners on the dependability of their vehicles.

Aygo X Tops Driver Power Survey

Auto Express highlighted the Aygo X's impressive "ride quality and braking performance" in their assessment. They added: "Japanese cars have been a common sight in the Driver Power reliability results over the years, and 2026 is officially Toyota's time to shine."

"The Toyota Aygo X takes top honours this year as the most reliable car in the UK... The city car sector is fiercely competitive, but the Toyota Aygo X clearly nails its brief and has been a hit with its owners." Finishing in a narrow second place behind the Toyota was the Mazda CX-30 SUV, with the Tesla Model 3 also placing highly.
